Kat Mitchell, Designer
Every piece that Kat designs tells a unique story, breathing life and energy into the spaces they inhabit.
Kat is a dynamic designer with a background in the arts. Her creative journey spans across photography, styling, staging, graphic design, printmaking, woodworking, landscaping, and biophilic design. Her hands-on experience at every stage of the design process, from fabrication to installation, has uniquely positioned her as a designer who comprehends and values every element of the design arc.
Her passion for design and furniture began with her revitalization of vintage furniture pieces, transforming discarded items into coveted treasures. This devotion evolved into crafting her own pieces and eventually designing on a larger scale, emphasizing the importance of harmony in spaces.
Kat believes that furniture is more than functional—it's about breathing vital energy into a space. Rejecting the notion that aesthetics must be sacrificed for functionality, she constantly seeks innovative ways to push boundaries and explore material selections. Her adaptive design approach aligns seamlessly with her core values—naturalist design, retro-modernism, and minimalism.
Originally hailing from Indianapolis, she earned her BFA from Herron School of Art and Design, where she explored creative expression across various mediums. She also studied architecture design and drafting at Austin Community College after moving to Austin in 2018.
Will Durfee, Production Lead
With over two decades of expertise, our Production Lead, Will Durfee, has honed his woodworking skills from a very young age. He started building tree forts and skateboard ramps starting at the age of 10. His education continued through hands-on experiences, learning from his father and a variety of other mentors throughout his career. He took his skills to the next level when he began honing his technical expertise in the CAD drafting program at Capitol City Trade and Technical School.
Prior to joining the 4th Edition team, he spent five years building residential and commercial custom cabinets at Summerwood Building. Will has also provided CAD design services for deck and skatepark companies, including, constructing skateparks for prestigious events like the X Games and Mountain Dew Tour.
Will approaches his work with a unique fusion of skill, heart, and a burning passion to bring beautiful creations to life. He strives to produce quality pieces that are not only beautiful but also designed to withstand the test of time.
A proud Austinite since 1999, Will has spent 25 years immersed in the local community, bringing a deep understanding of the city's character to every piece he creates.
